What is whistleblowing?

Reporting serious concerns about wrongdoing, fraud or unsafe practices within West Kent.

Who does the policy apply to?

Whistleblowing concerns will usually relate to the conduct of West Kent's workers and stakeholders, but they may sometimes relate to the actions of a third party such as a customer, supplier or service provider. This policy applies to anyone carrying out work for, or on behalf of, West Kent including all employees, officers, consultants, contractors, volunteers, interns, casual workers, agency workers, recognised resident representatives, customers, suppliers, board members and other stakeholders.

When to use this policy

  • Criminal activity or fraud.
  • Breaches of health and safety.
  • Discrimination, harassment or abuse.
  • Serious breaches of company policies or legal obligations.

Our commitment

  • We take all whistleblowing reports seriously.
  • We protect confidentiality wherever possible.
  • We will not tolerate victimisation of anyone who raises concerns in good faith.

How to report

  • If you are a member of staff, contact the Company Secretary by email or phone.
  • If you are not a member of staff, contact the Customer Services helpdesk (01732 749400) and request a callback from the Company Secretary.
  • You can also report directly to external regulators if needed.

What happens next

  • We’ll investigate promptly and fairly.
  • We’ll keep you informed as far as possible.
  • Action will be taken to address proven concerns.

Your rights

  • You’re protected under the Public Interest Disclosure Act.
  • Raising concerns will not affect your tenancy or employment.
