Our employment and training team runs regular workshops in Swanley to help young people build skills, grow confidence and move closer to work.

Earlier this year, four young West Kent residents from these workshops were referred to a paid work experience programme with AD Construction Group, our windows and doors contractor, joining several other local people also keen to explore careers in construction.

The week‑long programme was designed to break down barriers to employment and give participants genuine insight into the construction industry. Across the week, attendees had the chance to:

  • Receive HR guidance and career advice
  • Complete a comprehensive health and safety overview

  • Visit a live construction site

  • Spend time with a Customer Support representative

  • Take part in a department shadowing day (across Quantity Surveying, Project Management, Health & Safety, Reception Administration, Contract Team Administration and Contract Management)

  • Gain CPD‑certified training in general data protection regulation (GDPR), asbestos awareness, working at heights and manual handling

The experience with AD Construction Group left a real impact on our residents. One said: “I got lots of insight within multiple areas in the company, and they aligned who we shadowed with our interests. There's a family feeling about the company. Everyone was very nice and friendly.”

A big thank you to both AD Construction Group, for delivering this programme as part of their social value commitment, and to our Employment and Training team for continuing to support our younger residents into work.

We’re recruiting Resident Board Members to join our Board and help shape services and influence decisions - ensuring our residents’ voices are represented at the highest level in West Kent.
