This financial year (April 2024 to March 2025), there are 53 weeks, not 52. This happens every five or six years. This means there is an extra week of rent charged for your home.

But, the DWP, which manages Universal Credit, does not recognise a 53-week rent year. It will calculate your rent monthly based on a 52-week year.

This means that Universal Credit will not cover one week of rent. You must ensure that this extra week is paid for by Monday, 31 March 2025.

We know paying this might be a worry for you. If you are concerned about covering the cost, please talk to us as soon as possible. If it’s more affordable, you can pay a little extra each month rather than paying the full amount all at once.

You can get in touch with the income team by emailing incometeam@wkha.org.uk or calling 01732 749400.

If you need some support with the cost of living, please do talk to us. We have teams dedicated to providing help, advice, and financial support if you need it. Visit our Help for You page, email help@wkha.org.uk or call 01732 749400 for more information.
