For this Your voice, Our action story, we’re highlighting how our teams worked closely with residents and partner organisations to tackle anti-social behaviour (ASB) and make the Bishop’s Crescent community feel safer. By listening carefully to concerns and taking co-ordinated action, we were able to protect those affected and improve the neighbourhood's overall wellbeing.

This work reflects key areas of our Tenant Satisfaction Measures (TSMs), particularly residents wanting us to improve our approach to ASB, make a positive contribution to their neighbourhoods, and treat them with dignity and respect.

What residents told us

Following a serious incident in Bishop’s Crescent, Tenterden, several residents contacted us with concerns about their safety.

They explained how ongoing anti-social behaviour (ASB), including criminal activity, intimidation, and persistent noise, had affected them for several months. Despite previous interventions, the ASB continued and took a toll on the local community’s wellbeing - leaving people feeling unsafe in their own homes.

How we listened and took action

Our Community Safety team worked closely with residents, Kent Police, and local partners to understand the issues and gather evidence. This included speaking directly with residents, reviewing ASB reports and footage, carrying out risk assessments, and supporting residents to provide statements.

We also engaged with the offender to offer support, but it became clear that stronger action was needed.

Taking legal action

With clear evidence of serious and ongoing harm, Kent Police applied for a Closure Order, which was granted by the Magistrates’ Court with support from our Community Safety team.

A Closure Order restricts access to a property linked to serious ASB, giving immediate relief to neighbours.

Securing the property and restoring confidence

Following the court’s decision, we worked with Kent Police and contractors to secure the property. This helped prevent further disruption and restore stability in the area.

Residents told us they felt safer and more at ease in their homes as a result.

Why working together matters

This case highlights the importance of listening to residents and working closely with the police and local authorities to take action and keep our communities safe. Our Community Safety team continues to monitor the neighbourhood and support residents who have been impacted by ASB.
