We take lift safety very seriously.

At West Kent Housing Association, your safety is our top priority. Our lift safety policy explains our legal and regulatory responsibilities for passenger lifts and domestic lifts, including servicing, inspections and safety monitoring. It applies to all staff, residents, contractors, and anyone who works in, visits, or is affected by our buildings or services.

Here's what you need to know

Passenger lifts

  • Passenger lifts are serviced monthly.

  • Passenger lifts receive independent inspections every six months.

  • Emergency alarm systems are connected to a response service to help anyone who becomes trapped.

Domestic lifts

  • We offer annual servicing for stairlifts.

  • We offer six-monthly servicing for through-floor lifts.

  • We also offer repairs where required to help keep domestic lifts safe.

If a lift is out of service

  • We will inform residents and provide updates on expected timescales.

  • Any lift identified as presenting a critical safety risk will be taken out of service until the issue has been resolved.

  • We will consider vulnerabilities and alternative arrangements where appropriate.

What we're doing behind the scenes

  • We carry out regular inspections and servicing.

  • We monitor contractors and remedial works.

  • We use specialist consultants to provide independent advice and assurance.
