We take gas and heating safety very seriously.

At West Kent Housing Association, your safety is our top priority. Our gas and heating safety policy explains our legal and regulatory responsibilities for maintaining gas appliances, flues and heating systems safely. It applies to all staff, residents, contractors, and anyone who works in, visits, or is affected by our buildings or services.

Here's what you need to know

Gas safety checks

  • We carry out annual gas safety checks on gas appliances and flues.

  • We inspect and maintain heating systems in line with safety requirements.

  • New residents receive a gas safety record before moving in.

  • Existing residents receive a copy of their gas safety record following an inspection.

Access to your home

  • We need access to carry out safety inspections.

  • We follow a no-access process where we are unable to complete a required inspection.

  • Gas supplies may need to be capped if a safety check cannot be completed by the required date.

Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms

  • We check smoke and carbon monoxide alarms as part of gas safety inspections.

  • We will provide battery-powered alarms where none are present.

What we're doing behind the scenes

  • We use Gas Safe registered engineers to carry out inspections and servicing.

  • We carry out checks before new tenancies begin.

  • We investigate gas safety incidents and follow formal reporting procedures where required.
