We take electrical safety very seriously.

At West Kent Housing Association, your safety is our top priority. Our electrical safety policy explains our legal and regulatory responsibilities for maintaining safe electrical installations and equipment in our homes and buildings. It applies to all staff, residents, contractors, and anyone who works in, visits, or is affected by our buildings or services.

Here's what you need to know

Electrical inspections

  • We inspect and test electrical installations every five years, or sooner where recommended.

  • New residents receive an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) when moving into a property.

  • Existing residents receive a copy of the EICR within 28 days of an inspection being completed.

Electrical equipment

  • We inspect electrical equipment provided as part of a tenancy.

  • Residents are responsible for ensuring their own electrical equipment is safe.

  • Air source heat pumps are serviced annually.

What we're doing behind the scenes

  • We arrange inspections and testing using qualified contractors.

  • We complete any necessary remedial works identified during inspections.

  • We test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms during electrical inspections.

  • We monitor compliance and carry out ongoing contract management.
