Asbestos safety

We take the issue of asbestos safety very seriously.

At West Kent Housing Association, your safety is our top priority. Our asbestos policy explains our legal and regulatory responsibilities for managing asbestos safely, including surveys, inspections, risk assessments and maintaining an asbestos register. It applies to all staff, residents, contractors, and anyone who works in, visits, or is affected by our buildings or services.

Here's what you need to know

Before carrying out home improvements

  • Residents must seek asbestos information before carrying out home improvements.

  • We can provide asbestos survey information where available.

  • Additional information is available through our website and resident information materials.

How we manage asbestos

  • We identify where asbestos is, or may be, present.

  • We assess the condition of asbestos-containing materials and manage any risks.

  • We carry out surveys and reinspections where required.

  • Only competent and appropriately licensed contractors carry out asbestos surveying and removal work.

What we're doing behind the scenes

  • We maintain an asbestos management plan and asbestos register.

  • We carry out management surveys and refurbishment and demolition surveys where needed.

  • We act on any asbestos-related incidents in line with our asbestos management procedures.

  • We monitor contractors and undertake quality assurance checks.
