This year West Kent celebrated Black History Month for the first time, with staff across the business sharing their insights on the history, achievements and contributions of black people in the UK.

Black History Month is celebrated every October as an annual commemoration of the history, achievements, and contributions of black people in the UK. Inspired by the 2020 Black Lives Matter events, the 2021 campaign theme was Proud To Be. It invited black and brown people of all ages throughout the UK to share what they are proud to be.

At West Kent, we heard from Adisa at Challenge Consultancy about how we can all take steps to move from being non-racist to being anti-racist. These awareness sessions were made available to both staff and residents.

Chief executive Tracy Allison says;

‘I found the session on how to be an active ally really helpful and I am keen we continue to progress this at West Kent. Working with our equality, diversity and inclusion staff group, I plan to host a few more staff discussions in the coming weeks.’

Partners visit Woodland Place as 106-home development approaches completion

Last week, partners from Homes England, local councils, and other organisations visited Woodland Place to tour the 106-home development and see how the new community is coming together.
