We've temporarily paused fencing repairs and replacements.

Due to a current supply shortage of concrete gravel boards and concrete posts, our contractor Brenwards has found it difficult to continue repairs and replacements as normal. Because of this, we need to pause all current and new fencing repairs and replacements.

This doesn't affect chain link fencing, which we're still replacing as normal.

We know this may cause some inconvenience and worry for some of our residents. Although we hope this will be resolved soon, we can’t currently say when we will resume fencing repairs.

We’ve included some frequently asked questions below that might help you while you’re waiting for the repair/replacement:

    • Can’t you source the boards and posts elsewhere?

No, this is an issue that is affecting all fencing manufacturers.

    • Aren’t you legally required to install a fence in my garden?

It may surprise you to learn that there’s no legal obligation on us as a landlord to put in a fence or mark the boundaries of our properties. A boundary is an invisible line that marks the borders of a property. Physical features such as fences or hedges may run along the line of a boundary, but it’s not legally required. As a responsible landlord, we put in fences where we think they’re appropriate.

    • I have a dog and/or children, how will I keep them safe?

We understand it might be worrying if you have children or pets, but we would ask for you to keep your dogs on a lead in your garden if you think they may escape, and supervise your children while they are in your garden.

    • I can’t wait for my fence to be repaired/replaced. What should I do?

Residents may carry out small repairs or replace the current fence exactly ‘like for like’.  If they wish to replace an existing fence with something different, or erect a new fence, tenants must get our permission and comply with local authority planning regulations.

Some residents, who are unable to carry out necessary fencing work themselves, may qualify for help from voluntary organisations in Kent. Housing Care, an information service for older people, has more information.

    • What if I've paid for my fence to be replaced under Housing Plus?

These replacements will still be carried out, but will have a longer timescale and dependent on when we can get the materials.
