Could you support one of our projects by sharing a talent or trying a new challenge?

Opportunities are available across our community projects and with some of the other organisations we work with. Whether it's young people or children, our older residents or our retail sites and cafe you could make a valuable contribution to our work and have a positive impact in the community.

How can volunteering help me?

As well as knowing you are making a difference, as a volunteer you can develop new skills, build confidence and include the work on your CV.

What do I need to do?

We'll explain the different roles we have, what we need from you and what you can expect from us.  You don't have to be a West Kent tenant to volunteer for our community projects, but if you are a tenant you might also be interested in getting involved in helping review and develop the services you might receive from West Kent – from responding to surveys to mystery shopping.  For more information please call 01732 749420 or email getinvolved@wkha.org.uk

  • Abacus furniture projects

The staff at Abacus Furniture Projects are a small, motivated, hard working team. We aim to provide exceptional customer service to our customers - our volunteers play a key role in this and we are extremely grateful for their time and effort. We are always looking for more volunteers to help in both our shops and the warehouses.

Here's what a couple of our volunteers get up to:

    Daniel Moore

"I help out in the warehouse and I help the driver with collections and deliveries. I make sure that the warehouse is clean and tidy and that items have a price tag attached. I also help customers who come into the project by showing them the items we have for sale. Abacus is great to work and volunteer for because I am gaining experience and training while I volunteer. I see Abacus becoming a successful business that continues to employ volunteers, allowing them to gain experience that will help them to achieve long term employment."

    Peter Willett

"I help with deliveries and collections, keeping the warehouse clean, tidy and presentable. I help customers so that they have a good shopping experience Working for Abacus is fulfilling as the money generated is going back to the people most in need. I see Abacus continuing to grow and expand to help more local communities."

  • Kent Libraries, Registration and Archives

Have you ever wanted to help research your local history, host an event, teach IT skills? You’ve come to the right place!

We’re delivering the volunteer development programme for Kent’s Libraries, Registration and Archives (LRA) service, helping the county council maintain its place at the forefront of library based volunteering in the UK.

Volunteers do not do the work of staff, but add extra value to the service through the time they give and Kent’s libraries provide a wide range of volunteering opportunities that benefit customers, staff and the wider community.

We can offer opportunities such as:

    • IT Buddies
    • Kent History Champion
    • Reading Champion
    • Events Host
    • Home Library Service
    • Gardening and many more.

    Why volunteer?

You will be able to use your existing skills and gain experience.

Volunteering is very flexible and a great way to meet people, make friends and contribute to your local community.

    All travel expenses are paid.
