Youth News
Fun Days 2008Last year's Summer Fun Days were a huge hit, just like the previous year, with the exception for a couple that had to be cancelled because of the ongoing summer showers! Thank you to everyone who took part.
We are delighted that we have received over £40,000 of invaluable funding towards Play Days for 2008 and 2009, secured by the Sevenoaks District Play Partnership as part of a bid to the Big Lottery Fund Children’s Play Programme. In total nearly £200,000 was granted to the partnership to improve play facilities available to children across the District, so this year's Fun Days will be bigger and better than ever before!
We'll publish all the latest updates here as things progress, so do check back later for more details.
The Rising Stars Bursary
West Kent Extra's bursary fund for young people in the Sevenoaks District is currently closed for applications as all the funding has been spent for 2009.
Since April 2007 The Rising Stars Bursary has allocated £10,000, supporting 64 young people by funding activities which have contributed to their personal development.
Youth Extra Short Listed
Youth Extra were short listed for the ‘Local Engagement and Involvement’ category at the iNBiz Neighbourhood Awards in 2007 for our work with young people via Youth Extra. Three young people from the Youth Extra Members Committee went with Keith and other staff members to the awards dinner in Birmingham where TV’s Trisha Goddard announced the results. Sadly we didn't win but were commended on our good work.
Edenbridge Youth have their say
A group of young people in Edenbridge have set up their own youth forum, with the help of Youth Worker Keith Rowell. The group meet regularly and are undertaking consultation work. Young people in Edenbridge are invited to come along to the forum, to help choose and plan activities and express their views to local bodies like the Town Council. For more information please contact Keith on 01732 749908.
Have your say in Hartley
Keith Rowell has been meeting with a group of young people who are keen to have their say in Hartley. A core group meet regularly to discuss local issues and plan activities. This group helped research and plan a trip for the Easter holidays, when Keith and local HAWK youth worker Glenn Walsh took a group of 19 thrill-seeking young people to Thorpe Park! If you live in Hartley and would like more information, contact Keith on 01732 740420. A residential outward bound experience is planned for September 2009.
