Paying Your Rent

Debit Card payments can be made over the telephoneYour rent pays for the services we provide for you and other tenants. It is therefore important that everyone pays on time.

Rent is charged on a weekly basis, added each Monday. There are normally 48 rent paying weeks each year - with two rent free weeks during April and two rent free weeks during December. The dates of the rent free weeks will be shown in the West Kent calendar sent out each year. If you are in arrears then you should continue to pay during these rent free weeks in order to catch up.

If you do pay your rent (and don't break your tenancy agreement either) you will automatically be entered into our monthly 'Good Tenant Award' draw for £50.

How can I find out how much I owe?

We will send you rent statements twice a year. If you would like a copy of your rent statement then please contact your Neighbourhood Housing Officer.

 

How can I pay my rent/service charge?
All rents and service charges are due weekly in advance. If you wish to pay monthly you need to pay monthly in advance. You can pay your rent or service charge by the following methods: 
 
By Direct Debit

If you have a bank or building society account you can pay by Direct Debit, fortnightly or monthly. You need to complete a Direct Debit form and return it to us. You can request a form by contacting our Finance department or by downloading the form at the bottom of this page. Once completed, return your form to Finance Department, West Kent Housing Association, 101 London Road, Sevenoaks, Kent. TN13 1AX.

Once a completed Direct Debit form has been returned and set up, a schedule of payments will be sent to you to confirm the dates the payments will leave your account. You need to keep paying your rent until the Direct Debit is set up by West Kent. If there are any amendments to the amount to be paid, you will need to notify your Neighbourhood Housing Officer or the Finance department on 01732 749400. 
 

Online using Santander BillPay system (Formally Alliance & Leicester Billpay)

You can pay your rent or service charges online using one of the following cards:

Debit Cards - Visa, Visa Electron, Solo or Maestro
How to Register
Before you can make a payment you will have to register your details online.  You will need your Post Office payment card with you when you register, as you will be asked for the 19-digit number on the front of the card.  This number will be your payment reference when you use the online payment service.

If you do not have a Post Office payment card then you should email our Finance Team or call 01732 749945 to request one.

How to make a payment
When you have registered you will be able to log in and make a payment.
Please allow two working days for your payment to show on your rent account.

Payment security
BillPay uses advanced encryption technology to make sure that your personal and banking details are kept secure and confidential.
 
At a Post Office with your payment card
You can pay by cash or cheque at any post office, using your West Kent payment card. Your account will automatically be credited with your payment in 1-2 days. If you require a card or need a replacement card please contact the Finance department on 01732 749400.
 
By Standing Order

If you have a bank or building society account you may pay by standing order. These can be set up on a weekly or monthly basis. You will need to complete a standing order form. You can request a form by contacting our Finance department. Once set up, any amendments to the amount to be paid to West Kent should be arranged with your bank. 

 

Housing Benefit

You may be able to pay some or all of your rent by claiming housing benefit from your local council. To qualify, you will usually be on a low income and may be claiming benefits such as job seekers allowance, state pension or working family tax credit. The amount of benefit you get paid depends on your income and savings. If you qualify, the council will pay your housing benefit direct to us. By debit card

You can pay your rent by debit card during our working hours by ringing our Finance team on 01732 749442. You can also make card payments in person at either our Sevenoaks or Swanley offices by asking to speak to the Finance department. Please note that we cannot accept American Express cards

By post (cheques only)

If you pay by post you should send your cheque (payable to West Kent Housing Association) with your name, property address and tenant reference number if known:
