West Kent Repairs Service

West Kent Repairs ServicePlease use this service to tell us if you need a repair done to your home. West Kent will carry out the repairs that it is responsible for.

We receive lots of requests for repairs. We try to tackle the most serious repairs first. For example, a leak that has flooded the bathroom is more serious than a gentle drip. We have set targets for how quickly we carry out repairs.

We will not always be able to place an order directly with a contractor. Sometimes an Inspection Officer will need to visit you first. If this is the case, we will write, telephone or e-mail you, telling you when the Inspector plans to call.

NEW  Cold weather information - are you experiencing problems with burst or frozen water pipes? If so, please call us as soon as possible and follow these important guidelines:

  • If a pipe has burst then the best course of action is to turn off the stopcock - if this is not possible then wrap a towel tightly around the pipe and dangle one end into a bucket, the bucket should collect most of the water but it will need emptying frequently.
  • If the pipework is frozen it needs to be thawed gradually: turn up the heating a little, open the loft hatch if pipes are located in the loft to allow the warm air to reach them.

Appointments

We offer appointments for most types of work. For certain specialist works, for example installing a Lifeline alarm, we will ask the contractor to make the arrangements directly with you.

We are able to give appointments on the basis of first call, last call, all day, AM, PM and two-hour slots. An example of a two-hour time slot would be 8am-10am, for instance.

Please tell us if you are involved in a school run.

Broken Appointments

Our contractors aim to keep over more than 99% of their appointments. If they break the appointment or do not give you 24-hours notice of a change of appointment, we will pay you £15.

If you break an appointment without giving us 24-hours notice, we will charge you £15.

If you are not at home when our contractors call, they will leave a card asking you to make an other alternative arrangement. You must do this as soon as possible.

If you do not make another appointment within 48 hours, the repair request will be cancelled unless it is a health and safety or servicing issue. If it is cancelled you will then need to contact us again if you still want the work done.

In case of health and safety repairs or servicing items, you will be given another appointment in writing. If you break the second appointment, we will take legal action to get access to your home and will pass the cost on to you.
