West Kent is organised into six broad teams: 

Our leadership team

Our Executive Team is led by the Chief Executive, Frank Czarnowski and supported by five directors. Between them they manage around 280 staff to deliver excellent and comprehensive services to build new homes, maintain them, move people in and support them to look after the homes and their communities.

We pride ourselves on having a professional and dedicated workforce made up of a variety of teams, jobs and specialisms.

Developing our people

We have a proud record of developing our people. We pride ourselves on our recruitment of trainees and apprentices, encouraging them to develop in their roles and progress from job to job within our business. We also have regular opportunities for internal moves and secondments.  Below are some of our success stories!

  • Skilled trades

    young engineer with bathUnlike some housing associations we have our own in house team of skilled tradespeople. Every week, the team comes into the office for a ‘Toolbox Talk’. It’s their chance to keep in touch with the rest of the team. Everyone contributes and they say it helps to know they can have direct influence on how we work and the issues raised often become improvement projects for managers.

    The team planners schedule repair appointments, update the mobile working systems to make sure our appointments run smoothly and deal with customer queries about their repairs.

     

  • Communities

    Our communities team supports and works with communities and groups across Kent. The work we do is varied.  We don’t just work with our own tenants, but respond to local needs for all residents of the community. The jobs vary from youth work, supporting residents into training and employment and responding to a local identified need such as tenancy support and community engagement.

  • Customer services

    Customer services team leader AmyAmy joined West Kent in 2013. She joined as a customer services advisor and just a year later was promoted to team leader. Amy is responsible for performance management of her team, reporting customer service outcomes and ensuring customers receive the exceptional services when they contact us.

    Customer services is a team with their own identity and a great sense of humour. We’re very resilient because we have robust policies, procedures and guidance making it easy for new team members to get up and running quickly.

  • Housing

    Zoe is a Tenancy Services Officer and recently covered her manager’s maternity leave looking after five of her colleagues. She joined us in 1998 as a team secretary and worked in several different areas before going into housing management.

    There are often opportunities at West Kent to try different things, but I knew I wanted a career in housing so that’s always been my focus. We’re out every day visiting tenants and helping them manage their tenancies - you’ve got to love working with people to do this job and be honest with them. We’re more mobile now than ever before and being able to do the paperwork while out is making such a difference”

  • Property team

    Kerry in a new kitchenKerry joined West Kent as a junior secretary in what was then the Property Services Team. She has since developed her career, first being promoted to team co-ordinator and then West Kent sponsored her learning and development by enabling her to study a part-time degree in building surveying. She is now the Property Team’s Asset Manager, ensuring West Kent provides decent, well maintained homes for our tenants.

    I always wanted to go to university, but being keen to start work that opportunity escaped me. West Kent has enabled me to follow my dream by working and studying, which was the best course of action for me!

  • Finance & ICT

    Finance team

    Dan joined us in 2011 with ten other trainees through a programme called ‘Future Jobs Fund’. He initially worked with residents who needed extra support and when the opportunity arose, moved into a job in the Finance Team and was Finance Income Assistant for just over a year. Having done well and been trained on-the-job, Dan was promoted to Finance Income Officer dealing with rent income and other payments received.

    Having started as a young trainee not really sure about what I wanted to do, it’s worked out really well for me to work in the Finance team and I really like the job I do. Thanks West Kent.

    ICT 

    Having studied a degree in Business and IT Sareena initially did a two week work experience placement with us before being asked to work on a short project. It went so well that we asked Sareena to join us full-time in 2015 as ICT Data Analyst. Projects she has worked on include allowing housing staff to work while out ‘on the road’ using hand held mobile devices, as well as our reporting processes and making sure that systems are used in the best way. Sareena has also been able to benefit from training in new computer languages and business improvement, helping us to constantly improve.

    I’ve really enjoyed working on the ‘mobile working project’ as it has made life easier and more efficient for staff who are out and about. They can now fill in forms and do other work ‘on- the-road’ without having to come back to the office.
