As a tenant, leaseholder or shared owner, you are responsible for repairs and maintenance that become necessary because of damage or neglect, caused by you, your relatives or visitors.
As a tenant, leaseholder or shared owner you are also responsible for your own house contents insurance to cover damage to their possessions and decorations, in the event of the property being damaged by fire, flood, storm, or other accident that could have been prevented. As a tenant you are responsible for:
- Complying with your tenancy agreement
- Reporting repairs promptly
- Undertaking repairs that are your responsibility as defined in your tenancy agreement
- Providing us and our contractors access to your home
- Keeping appointments made or paying West Kent £20 if you break an appointment without giving 24 Hours notice
- Getting written permission from West Kent before making any improvements or alterations to your home, and then keeping the improvement/alteration in good repair.
- The repair liability for improvements/alterations transfers to the incoming resident if you undertake a mutual exchange
- Keeping your home, including internal decorations, in good order
- Conforming to all regulations
- Safely maintaining trees or bushes in your garden
- Leaving your home and garden in good condition when you end your tenancy
- Treating staff and contractors with respect.
